SIASSI DISTRICT SET FOR ELCPNG 35TH NATIONAL SYNOD

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of PNG (ELCPNG) will be hosting its 35th National Synod on the 19th to 23rd January hosted by ECLPNG Siassi District in Morobe Province.

In an update on the preparations, ELCPNG Head Bishop, Rev Dr Jack Urame says the venue has been prepared in Siassi Island including water and power connected for use during the synod.

Rev Urame says the opening ceremony will be on Sunday 18th January with the synod meetings commencing on Monday 19th to Friday 23rd January.

Delegates will come from the 17 districts of ELCPNG with 50 delegates per district including visitors, observers, government representatives, and others both from within the country and abroad including the Head Bishop of the Lutheran Church of Australia.

He urge people not to travel by dinghies as the Church will be providing two ships, MV Momase and MV Ialibu to ferry delegates across to Siassi Island.

Rev Urame says there is a logistics team in place to organise travel arrangements and it will only be for the synod delegates who will be issues special passes to board the ships to Siassi.

The next Synod will be held in January 2028 with the last one held in January 2024 hosted by ELCPNG Immanuel District in Ialibu, Southern Highlands Province.

The synod is a significant gathering that shaped the Church’s direction and ministry which is held every two years.
