PNG Power has acknowledged the risks and reaffirmed that Port Moresby general Hospital remains a priority customer on the national grid, and as part of immediate and long-term measures, PNG Power has confirmed that a new dedicated power line from the upgraded Kilakila Substation will be directly connected to PMGH, providing a stable and exclusive electricity supply.

PNG Power says recent outages were caused by severe weather, strong winds, vegetation interference and storm damage linked to Tropical Cyclone Koji, which led to rare simultaneous failures across multiple feeders.

Port Moresby General Hospital Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paki Molumi, recently met with PNG Power CEO Paul Bayly after repeated power fluctuations raised concerns over patient safety and critical medical equipment damages.

Dr Molumi says ongoing power supply problems are now being addressed following discussion with PNG Power Limited.

PNG Power has assured the hospital that stabilising its power supply is now a top priority and says regular updates will be provided as repairs and upgrades continue.

Meanwhile Hospital management acknowledge the swift response and says it will continue working closely with PNG Power to ensure patient safety and long-term power reliability.
