GOVERNMENT ALLOCATES OVER K900 MILLION SCHOOL FEE SUBSIDIES, NO PROJECT FEES TO BE CHARGED BY SCHOOLS

THE Government Education Fee Subsidies remain this year, as Government has allocated an increased funding of K9, 04 million to cater for the school fees for students this academic year.
Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra told media today, that the funding will be released on a quarterly basis, and are now awaiting the release of Warrant from Treasury department for funding to be released into schools account before schools commence.
“The Government Free Education Policy will continue this year, every year, over the last 5 years the Government allocation for tuition fees have significantly increase, with K732 million in 2022, K860 million in 2025 and this year K904 million, and this way the government continues to provide education free to give every opportunity to every child,” Secretary Kombra said.
He thanks the National Government for making sure that every child has an opportunity to go to school whilst he also added that the Government Free Education Policy is a very good policy that everyone should commend the government for.
Secretary Kombra also place on record that all Project Fees for students have also be paid for with a total funding of K160 million allocation.
He now calls on all schools not to charge parents to pay project fees, as this is seen as illegal.
However, Dr Kombra clarified that Schools may charge project fees on what he termed as “Self-Reliance projects” if and only agreed by Parents and Citizen Associations and further approved by Provincial Education Board or National Education Board.
Self reliance projects would include New classroom building, teachers houts amongst others.
Meantime, the Secretary urges all parents to assist in areas where the Government can not assist in terms of providing a good meal for the students, uniformproper study set up for students at home.
