PAPUA NEW GUINEA has once again taken its place on the international parliamentary stage, participating in the 28th Conference of Speakers and Presiding Officers of the Commonwealth CSPOC in New Delhi from the 14th to the 16th of this month.
CSPOC is a biennial forum that unites Speakers and Presiding Officers of national parliaments from independent Commonwealth nations. It provides a platform to discuss parliamentary democracy, effective procedures, and good governance, while also promoting the institutional growth of parliaments. Central to the forum is the role of Speakers in upholding democratic values, maintaining order, and safeguarding parliamentary integrity.
The PNG delegation was led by the Speaker of the National Parliament, Hon. Job Pomat. He was joined by the Assistant Speaker, Hon. Kansol Kamdaru, the Clerk of the National Parliament, Mr. Kala Aufa, the National Parliament Sergeant at Arms and Protocol Officer, Mr. Karo Kila, the First Secretary to the Speaker, Mr. David Aussell, and the National Parliament International Public Relations Officer, Mr. David Ropra.
The conference brought together parliamentary leaders from across the Commonwealth to share ideas, strengthen cooperation, and reaffirm the foundations of democratic governance.
PNGβs participation enabled meaningful engagement with senior parliamentary leaders from across the Commonwealth. Through open dialogue and shared experiences, the delegation gained practical insights and perspectives aimed at strengthening parliamentary systems.
These key takeaways will be brought back to Papua New Guinea to help further build and strengthen the National Parliament as the Peopleβs House, ensuring it continues to serve the people with integrity, accountability, and purpose.
