BULOLO Development Authority chairman Sam Basil Jr has corrected a media report published last week that incorrectly reported that the district will not sponsor student going for tertiary education.

Mr Basil said the Bulolo DDA has the following Scholarship Schemes related to tuition fee and boarding support for student qualified to enter Bulolo Technical College, Community Health Workers training institutions, Balob Teachers College, Wau Small Scale Mining school, University and college scholarships and the Sam Basil Memorial Scholarship.

“For Bulolo Tech, the district will sponsor one student per ward, totalling 65 to any course while CHW training is for 15 awardees,” he explained.

He said teacher training gets 30 scholarships to Balob in Lae while another 30 awardees will be sponsored to the Alluvial mining school in Wau.

“To support landowner up-skilling and development, 10 qualified students will be sponsored to any course at Bulolo Technical school,” he said.

Mr Basil explained the 10 that will be recipients of the Landowner Skills Development scholarships will come from Yanta, Hengambu and Babuaf only.

“This year, student going to or continuing at universities and colleges must apply for the Gerson Solulu Scholarship of the Morobe provincial government so as to avoid double dipping,” he said.

Mr Basil added the Sam Basil Memorial Scholarship Support will strictly be for District Schools such as Baiyune Secondary and Buang and Watut high School and post graduate students.

But he added that students passing out of Baiyune and selected to universities and colleges will still receive support from the Bulolo DDA but in the form of air fares, lap top computers or field trip expenses.

“However, the requirements are that as a student, you must be academically qualified for the course, be accepted at nominated institution being AOG CHW School, Bulolo Technical College, Balob Teachers College, Wau SSMS or University or other approved higher education institute and must be a resident of Bulolo District except students from Babuaf,” he said.

He said applications must come with a nomination from the village Councillor and the student must agree to serve for two years, after graduation, before he or she can leave to serve other districts or build their career
