GOVERNOR RAPA COMMENDS INSTALATION OF RADIOLOGY EQUIPMENT

MT Hagen Hospital Radiology building housing state-of-the-art medical equipment will be opened this month, with recent installation of radiology equipment and dental facilities.
Governor for Western Highlands Province, Wai Rapa, commended Western highlands provincial hospital in his recent visits sighting the state-of the-art medical equipment in the newly constructed Radiology Department, which is now nearing
completion.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority, Ms. Jane Holden, together with the Senior Capital Projects Manager, Mr. Abhishek Dhar welcomed the Governor and accompanied him on a tour of the facility, showcasing the installation of an advanced 128-slice CT scan, Mammogram, and Digital Radiography X-ray equipment.
The Governor also visited the Dental Clinic and inspected three brand new dental chairs—generously funded through last year’s Governor’s Ball The installation of the CT scan, Mammogram, and X-ray machines was completed by the Siemens team from Australia.
Each of these imaging technologies plays a critical role in modern healthcare: X-rays provide fast, reliable 2D images of bones and lungs; Mammograms are crucial for the early detection and screening of breast cancer; and CT scans deliver highly detailed 3D cross-sectional views of organs and tissues, supporting accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
Together, these advancements mark a significant step forward in strengthening medical services and improving
patient care.
Governor Rapa expressed his satisfaction with the progress, noting that the people of Western Highlands will now have access to services locally rather than traveling to outside provinces.
“This is a milestone for our province since we gained Independence. Our people deserve modern healthcare, and now they can receive it right here at Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital,” he said.
The Governor also visited the Dental Ward and commended the recent purchase of three brand-new dental chairs.
He praised Ms. Holden’s leadership, noting that without her thoughtful recommendations, these vital additions would not have been possible.
He applauded her vision and dedication, acknowledging the positive impact her guidance has had on improving patient care in Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital.
The Radiology building is scheduled to open to the public on 26 March 2026 officially.
