THE Connect PNG program must include a compulsory component to build border security checkpoint facilities.

Governor of Central Province Rufina Peter made these remarks following the recent official execution of the contract by Grand Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae, for the construction of the 242-kilometre section of the Magi Highway.

Governor Peter says, security checkpoints facilities must be a compulsory component in the Connect PNG program, with direct input of the provincial administrations of the affected areas.

This she says, will minimise the negative impact of Connect PNG as it relates to Central borders.

She emphasized that while improved connectivity would stimulate trade and mobility, it must also be accompanied by strategic planning to safeguard communities, manage population movement, and protect customary land and local economies.

The stretch will run from Moreguina Junction in Central Province to Gadaisu in Milne Bay Province, forming a critical link along Papua New Guinea’s southern coastline.
