NASFUND’S LOWER COSTS DELIVER GREAT RETURNS

BY RAYLEEN WANJIMAN
NATIONAL Superannuation Fund CEO Rajeev Sharma says the Fundโs Total Expense Ratio or TER remains lower and different from other superannuation funds allowing more returns to go directly to members.
Speaking during the 2025 Nasfund audited financial results announcement this week, Sharma said Nasfund has maintained a TER of between 1.01 and 1.5 percent over the past five years, reflecting disciplined cost management.
He says the lower operating costs allow the Fund to save between K30 and K40 million each year, which can significantly increase membersโ retirement savings over time.
Mr Sharma says over a five to six year period, the savings from maintaining a low TER could translate to around K 250 million more in retirement benefits for members compared to higher-cost funds.
He also highlighted that lower TER not only benefits members but increases declared profits, allowing the Fund to pay more taxes to the government and supporting national development.
Mr Sharma added that the Fundโs efficient operations help it process around 300 benefit claims daily, ensuring members receive their retirement, resignation or other superannuation payments promptly.
In addition, Nasfund has been strengthening its digital services, including the Super Education Calculator, Nasfund Chatbot and educational videos to make it easier for members to manage their accounts and plan for retirement.
He said these initiatives, combined with strong cost discipline awards for innovation and strategic partnerships that demonstrate the Fundโs commitment to improving member outcomes and delivering sustainable long-term growth.
