YARO STUDENTS RECEIVED BOOKS DONATION FROM “BOOKS4KIDS PNG”

STUDENTs of Yaro Primary School in the Yaro Yambi community of South Wiru LLG, Ialibu-Pangia District, Southern Highlands Province received 30 cartons of library books donated by Books4Kids PNG, an Australian-based volunteer organisation to support reading and learning.
Paul Ira a local education advocate and Inclusive Education Program Coordinator with the Enga Provincial Division of Education.
The presentation was witnessed by volunteers Emmanuel Vincent Eralia and Stanford Jackson, as well as teachers, students and community members.
Mr Ira, said the donation was timely as the school had long faced a shortage of reading materials.
“Students are often encouraged by teachers to read, but it is difficult when there are no books available for them,” he said.
Mr Ira said the books would greatly assist students and teachers and improve reading culture at the school.
Mr Mombu, who has been coordinating book donations in Southern Highlands for the past four years, said initiatives like this were important in improving education in rural communities.
“It is important to take the first step and do something rather than waiting for government assistance all the time,” he said.
“Reading books are like master seeds planted for a better future, and they help build a prosperous society.”
Meanwhile, local ward councillor Ipu Ena has called on the government and educated elites from the Yaro Yambi area to support the construction of a library to properly store the books and allow students better access to reading materials.
The donation is expected to significantly improve learning opportunities for students at the rural school.
