Its significance was emphasized during a fundraising dinner at Dynasty Restaurant in Port Moresby on Friday, 20th March 2026, where leaders and people from the Southern Highlands united to support their communities and have outline their vision that is set to transform livelihoods in Anga Angula community.
At its core, the forum seeks to address long-standing challenges faced by rural communities that are limited access to markets, financial services and income generating opportunities.
Despite being rich in natural resources and traditional knowledge, many people remain in subsistence living due to a lack of structured support and economic pathways to support themselves.
AADF aims to bridge this gap by promoting agriculture, supporting small and medium enterprises and improving financial inclusion. A key priority is ensuring people have access to national identification, enabling participation in the formal economy and access to essential government services.
Committee Chairman Dr Paki Molumi emphasized that the forum’s importance lies in unlocking the potential already present within the community stressing that their people are not lazy. They work from sunrise to sunset, but they have no market for what they produce.
Beyond economic development, the forum is also expected to deliver wider social influence by tackling youth unemployment and law-and-order concerns to achieve that ADDF need to create opportunities in farming, business and skills development to redirect young people toward productive and meaningful activities.
The desired outcome is to build communities that are independent, resilient and capable of sustaining their own growth, families earning steady incomes, youths engaged in positive projects and reduced reliance on external support.
Dr. Molumi stressed that empowering people to earn their own income is key to solving many social challenges because when people have their own money, they don’t need to depend on anyone they can stand on their own and that reduces law and order issue.
With its clear focus on sustainability and community ownership, the Anga Angula Development Forum is confident to play a vital role in shaping a more stable and prosperous future for its people.
