THE New Porgera Limited (NPL) has opened a new office in Lae, Morobe Province, to improve the mine’s supply chain.

Lae is PNG’s main industrial hub and the key entry point for heavy equipment and essential supplies. Having a base in Lae allows the logistics team to manage materials from arrival, reduce delays, and ensure smoother, more reliable operations.

The opening was attended by General Manager James McTiernan, Country Manager Karo Maha, NPL Director and PNG University of Technology Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Kaul Gena, and Manager Supply and Business Services Cameron McGregor.

Professor Gena’s background in economic geology highlights the link between mining and the systems needed to move resources efficiently.

The office is focused purely on logistics, making coordination faster and more effective. Being in Lae also allows closer work with partners such as PNG Customs and helps maintain compliance with national requirements.
