HEALTH services in Western Province have received a significant boost, with 18 newly graduated nurses from Rumginae School of Nursing offered immediate employment upon completing their studies.

The job placements were announced during the school’s first-ever Diploma in General Nursing graduation ceremony, underscoring efforts to strengthen the local health workforce.

At the ceremony, North Fly District Health Manager Mr Roddy Ukin Snr presented a speech on behalf of Western Provincial Health Authority (WPHA) Chief Executive Officer Dr Miriam Boga, who was unable to attend.

In her address, Dr Boga confirmed that all 18 graduates from the Diploma in General Nursing program had been recruited under WPHA, marking an important milestone for both the graduates and the province’s healthcare system.

Out of the 18 graduates, 14 will be stationed at Kiunga District Hospital, while the remaining four will serve at Daru Provincial Hospital.

One of those assigned to Daru, Patrina Dewi, previously worked at the hospital as a Community Health Worker before returning to pursue further studies. She has now been re-engaged as a Nursing Officer and officially signed her employment contract on stage during the ceremony under the CEO’s authority.

The graduates were also issued provisional licences, allowing them to complete six months of supervised clinical practice before obtaining their full registration.

The announcement brought excitement to graduates, families, and supporters, as the event marked not only the completion of their training but also the beginning of their professional careers.

The ceremony concluded in a lively atmosphere, with entertainment performances enjoyed by parents and guardians as they celebrated the achievements of the graduates.
