NCD/CENTRAL COMMAND STRICT TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT TO COMMENCE APRIL 1ST

NCD and Central Police command is fully prepared to commence a major traffic enforcement operation effective April 1st, 2026.

This is according to Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Turi, in his statement.

ACP Turi states that the operation will target ongoing traffic violations, with an average of at least 20 offenders expected to be arrested daily.

This initiative aims to restore discipline on the roads and promote responsible behavior among all road users.

ACP Turi emphasized that ignorance of the law will not be accepted as an excuse and warns and failure to comply will result in arrest and detention at Waigani Police Cells, followed by prosecution

He states, Officers will take firm action to ensure drivers and operators understand and comply with traffic regulations and further warned that vehicles operating without proper PMV permits while conducting public transport business will be dealt with accordingly for engaging in illegal activities.

The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary has repeatedly issued awareness to PMV and taxi operators to ensure their vehicles are properly registered, roadworthy, and compliant with all legal requirements and will now apply full enforcement.

The public is encouraged to share this information widely across all platforms to ensure maximum awareness adding Community cooperation is vital in supporting law enforcement efforts and keeping our roads safe.

All bus and taxi owners found breaching traffic laws will be charged and fined. ACP Turi also warns on picking up or dropping off passengers along the roadside and urged all public transport to use designated bus stops
