WESTERN Pacific University (WPU) has celebrated its second graduation ceremony, with strong calls for increased national government support to sustain the institution’s growth.

Former Prime Minister and Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill used the occasion to urge the Marape-Rosso Government to prioritise funding for the university, stressing that investment in higher education is vital for nation-building.

Southern Highlands Governor William Powi officiated at the ceremony on Friday, which saw 92 students graduate in key fields including International Business Management and Cyber Security.

In a major show of support, the Southern Highlands Provincial Government presented a K1 million cheque towards refurbishment and further development of the university, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening education in the province.

The graduation marks a significant milestone for Western Pacific University and highlights its growing role in providing quality higher education opportunities within the country.

The presence of national and provincial leaders underscored the importance of the institution not only to Southern Highlands Province but also to Papua New Guinea’s broader development agenda.

The ceremony reflects the university’s steady progress and its increasing contribution to building a skilled workforce for the future.
