RAGAMUGA FAMILIES RECEIVED LAND TITLES, ENDING YEARS OF UNCERTAINTY

THERE were so much joy and excitement at Ragamuga Settlement in Saraga, 6 mile in the Nations Capital as hundreds of families officially received land titles, ending decades of uncertainty over the land they call home.

The titles were presented by Port Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko and National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop under the city’s Settlement-to-Suburb Program.

Speaking at the ceremony earlier this week, Tkatchenko said Ragamuga is on its way to becoming a fully planned suburb, thanking residents for their patience and acknowledging the Saraga customary landowners for supporting the development.

He said new infrastructure like school, housing subdivision, road and community facilities, will help transform the area.
He stressed that the project will also benefit nearby communities, ensuring residents can continue living in a planned and legally recognised neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, Governor Parkop described the event as a historic milestone, saying many families have waited since the 1960s for secured land ownership.

He said the land titles will allow proper subdivision, home development and long-term security, while fulfilling the city’s vision of upgrading settlements in to surbubs instead of evicting residents.
