MINISTER KAUPA SUPPORTS 89 HOUSES AFFECTED BY RECENT EVICTION AT 9MILE

NINETY-EIGHT Houses that were affected by the recent eviction at 9mile received relieve supplies from the newly appointed Environment, Conservation and Climate Change Minister John Kaupa, who is also the Moresby Northeast MP.
In a small ceremony at 9mile yesterday, Minister Kaupa addressed residents of Portion 1155 and 1156 who were evicted early this month and assured them of his support in allocating land for relocation.
Minister Kaupa says he was not aware of the eviction and further urged the residents of 9 mile and in the Moresby North East to always consult his office if and when they receive eviction notices to allow for beneficial negotiations and proper eviction arrangement.
Meantime, Women Representative Ruth Kuman when speaking on behalf of the evicted residents, says the eviction exercise by the named claimed land lord was did not follow proper processes, saying heavy machinery pulled down all their houses within 48 hours.
She claimed their livelihood in the said land portion had spanned over 4 generations and they were treated as animals in the process of the eviction.
Minister Kaupa assured his people that under the Settlement to Suburb policy, he has plans to upgrade his electorate to that standard and allocate land to accommodate those affected.
