VIPERS HONOR LATE SUPPORTER BEFORE ROUND 18 WIN

THE Moni Plus NCDC Port Moresby Vipers combined emotion and determination in their Round 18 clash against the Bintangor Goroka Lahanis, securing a dramatic 24‑22 victory in Goroka.

A day before the match, the team visited Seigu Village to pay respects at the resting place of their late die‑hard supporter Jackson Appo, whose passion for the Vipers forged a strong bond between the club and the Goroka community.

The Appo family, deeply moved by the gesture, reaffirmed their commitment to continue hosting and supporting the Vipers whenever they play in Goroka.

Jackson’s connection with the club began in 2018 when his son Kevin Appo joined the Vipers before moving to the PNG Hunters in 2019. From then, Jackson became a central figure in rallying community support, organising post‑match gatherings and building a tradition that endured until his passing in March 2025.

That legacy has helped Goroka become a “second home ground” for the Vipers, with strong backing from local communities and families of current players. CEO Ronnie Titie Jnr has also played a role in strengthening ties with Goroka fans.

On the field, the Lahanis started strongly, leading 12‑0, but the Vipers fought back through tries from Jeremiah Ben, Manase Watt, and Joseph Kora.

Despite a late surge from the Lahanis, the Vipers held on to secure third place and a spot in the finals.
