GOVERNOR PARKOP ANNOUNCED NCDC INDEPENDENCE ACTIVITIES

NCD Governor Powes Parkop launched the Independence Activities in Port Moresby today as the nation celebrates its 51st Independence Anniversary in the coming days.
The independence planed activities will be held in different locations in National Capital District, at Sir John Guise, Unagi Oval, University of PNG, Erima Mambu, Pacific Adventist University, Sacred Heart Bomana and Ela Beach.
The independence celebration will kick off this Saturday 12th September with the Unity Walk and the Hiri Moale festival and will continue through with activities till 16th September.
Governor Parkop says the occasion is not only about celebrating 51 years of Independence but also to use the opportunity to reset and start a new journey and take on the challenges on how to improve in the 51st year going forward.
The main events include Amazing Port Moresby Unity Walk and Hiri Moale festival at Ela Beach , Festival of a Thousand tribes at Sir John Guise and also Unagi oval with a jammed packed activities.
City Manager Ravu Frank commended Governor Parkop for his commitment support and leadership and appealed to all citizens to celebrate in the true meaning of independence and respect fellow country men and women.
He said the Independence celebration is an opportunity for citizens to showcase their customs and traditions with pride, there must be respect to the laws of the country and to the citizens.
Mr Frank also commended the Governor for the City Decoration Initiative where residents and businesses in the city will win prizes for the best independence decoration.
Prizes for the business houses would include K50, 000 for the first prize, 2nd prize K25, 000 and 3rd prize K10, 000, while for the residents, K10, 000, K7,000 and K5,000 respectively.
