2027 NATIONAL ELECTIONS BEHIND SCHEDULE

BY BENJAMIN KOITAKA
THE highly talk about and anticipated 2027 National General Election will not happen on the tentative Gazetted time and will face a significant delay, next year.
This is due to the PNG Electoral Commission under-resourced, lacking financial backing, failure to prioritize electoral reforms, adoption of new technologies and other important factors that are likely to cause the delay of the polls in 2027.
According to PNG Electoral Commission, Commissioner Professor Nicole Haley, she added that 2027 National Election is behind schedule, which may result in delay of the Issue of Writs in April, campaign period, polling and Return of Writs in later August and early September, 2026.
Dr Nicole is adamant that under her careful watch, these issues will be addressed thoroughly to get the election up and running in the forthcoming year.
Commissioner Dr Nicole urged general public to remain adamant and optimistic and not to spread speculation and fake information, regarding the matter, as she is looking at alternative to address the matter.
