PNG KICKBOXER THOMAS KAGILI TO DEFEND WORLD TITLE IN DECEMBER

BY LETHISA KOLOKOL

PAPUA New Guinea kickboxer Thomas Kagili is preparing to defend his World Kickboxing Federation (WKF) title on December 10, 2026, following his international achievements in the sport.

In an exclusive interview with FM100, PNG Kickboxing Federation president Stanley Nandex confirmed that Kagili was preparing for the title defence against an international challenger.

Kagili gained international recognition in August 2023 when he defeated British kickboxer Seyi Banjoko in a super lightweight contest in Miami, Florida.

Despite facing an opponent who was nearly 20 centimetres taller, Kagili secured a unanimous points decision victory, winning 30–27.

Nandex said Kagili competed at the international world kickboxing championships in Miami in 2023, where he won a gold medal. He said Kagili had recently received his title belt and was now preparing to defend his title.

Nandex described Kagili’s achievements as a significant milestone for PNG kickboxing, highlighting the fighter’s commitment and dedication to the sport.

“It was a huge achievement for Thomas,” Nandex said.
He said Kagili was one of the federation’s senior fighters and that his continued involvement in the sport was encouraging for younger kickboxers.

“From the federation point of view, we have seen his commitment, dedication and efforts that he has put in. He is one of our very senior kickboxers,” Nandex said.

The Papua New Guinea Kickboxing president said the federation was grateful for Kagili’s achievements and would support preparations for his December title defence.
