MOTHERS MUST BE EMPOWERED; WENGE
By Bradley MARIORI, Lae
Infrastructure services like bridges and roads can be built to support the people but firstly, the people must be empowered to feed and sustain themselves. Morobe Governor Luther Wenge said this when addressing the Widows, Divorced, Separated and Struggle (WDSS) mothers at Wasu Station, Tewae Siassi district.
WDSS is an initiative of the Morobe Governor Luther Wenge, with the aim to help the mothers especially the widows, divorced, separated or are struggling.
Wenge said while mothers are the backbone of the society, they must be empowered in some way to help them carry their family forth.
He said many mothers have struggled all throughout the province and the country and the children they have raised have contributed immensely to the country.
With this, they need to be supported in whatever ways the government can, to look after and bring up future leaders of the country.
WDSS Coordinator, Esther Peter said they have launched WDSS associations in Wau Waria, Nawaeb, Finschhafen and now Tewai Siassi and will reach out to all districts to support the mothers.
The program has been successful so far in the mentioned districts and is set to roll out all throughout Morobe.
