MOU VILLAGE, FIRST TO LAUNCH COCOA FARMING IN KAIRUKU-BEREINA DISTRICT
MOU Village in the Kairuku-Bereina district of Central Province is the first village in the district to test the waters of planting, harvesting and marketing Cocoa.
This was made possible through their Community Cooperative Cocoa Farming Association called Huhure’o Farmers Association Inc, together with the Cocoa Board PNG and other like- minded local elites, supporting the idea.
The Mou Village is planning to use 250 hectares of land to plant at least 12 000 seedlings.
Association project coordinator Samson Wolwolit said their only obstacles would be the road, logistics in transporting the seedlings and product.
Mr Wolwolit also mentioned weather, prolonged dry season in the Southern Region is continuously affecting the nursery and transplanting of the cocoa seedlings as well.
The launching of the Huhure’o Farmers Association Inc took place recently at Mou Village in the Kairuku-Bereina district.
