Security in the South-East Pacific region continues to be a major concern for international investor confidence. This was the concern that Foreign Minister, Justin Tkatchenko alluded to when giving his remarks in the recent PNG Investment week conference in Sydney this week.

He said like other developing countries, PNG under the leadership of the Marape-Rosso government has undertaken major reform and transformation, breaking down traditional social barriers in its efforts to guide gainful opportunities.

The minister stated that as Foreign Minister for the last three years under this Government has signed, ratified and endorsed a significant number of international agreements – more MOUs and agreements than any other government in Papua New Guinea history since independence, adding that this is a clear message that they are serious about investor confidence, foreign relations and the benefits that Papua New Guinea stands to gain.

Tkatchenko stated that this is not only about PNG’s diplomatic relationships, partnerships and traditional partnerships, but down also to the economy, the way forward now and into the future.

He reiterated that Australia is Papua New Guinea’s largest trading and development partner, and the Government appreciates this partnership.
