A teacher from Birip village in the Wabag Rural LLG of Enga Province has urged students to plant trees and take care of the environment reminding them to be cautious of their actions.

Dan Nyia, a long serving primary school teacher, made this appeal when students are returning to resume the 2025 Academic Year.

He made mention of trees he along with a group of students planted in 2003, well over 21 years ago, that are now matured enough to mill to make timber for commercial or personal use.

“These trees were planted in 2003.After 21 years fully matured for milling.I hope to build a decent home,” Nyia said.

He encouraged students to plant trees to alleviate climate change issues as the gradual carbon increase is real.

“Soil fertility is diminishing, weather patterns arent friendly to mankind because of climate change,” he said.

He mentioned that by planting coffee seedlings and other trees, it helps restore fresh air, water supply, organic food, wood for energy and building homes.

He says that it is important for students and youths alike to plan their future now and plant trees that will be a valuable asset to them in the near future. Nyia has ventured into commercial coffee nursery and production and is the Chairman of the Wabag District Coffee Cooperative Society.
