AKEM URGES FOR PEACE IN WABAG AND KOMPIAM AMBUM DISTRICTS

Lagaip Open MP and Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Law and Order Aimos Akem was on the to ensure peace was successfully negotiated between two warring factions along the Wabag and Kompiam Ambum Districts electoral borders.

He encouraged the Yakan Tribe living throughout both districts to change their mindset and stop tribal fighting as it only brings misery, chaos and destruction.

Several clans of the Yakan Tribe waged war against themselves after the 2022 National General Elections and it has been ongoing until proactive measures by local elites and the government resulted in the ceasefire with the presence of Chairman Akem ensuring all parties concerned respect the rule of law accordingly.

Akem was accompanied by his electoral officer Steven Moses Mase who is also from the area with him taking the responsibility to assist in the ongoing peace negotiations.

The Yakan tribal group stretches from the Yampu Catholic Health Centre and covers the Yampu Catholic Mission, Par Catholic Mission, Par Primary School, Sir Tei Abal Secondary School in the Ambum LLG of the Kompiam Ambum District and reaches Lenki village along the main Highlands Highway few minutes drive away from Wabag Town.

The Yakan Tribe is one of the biggest tribe in Enga Province with an approximate population of 50,000 people.
