PRIME Minister Hon. James Marape officially launched the NASFUND FM100 Talkback Show, emphasising the importance of open and informed discussions as Papua New Guinea approaches its 50th anniversary of independence.

Speaking at the launch, Prime Minister Marape at Hilton Hotel yesterday, he acknowledged the critical role that FM100 has played in keeping Papua New Guineans informed for decades.

He says, Radio has been an anchorage for our people, ensuring that they are correctly informed about national affairs, adding long before television and modern digital platforms existed, FM100 and other radio stations connected our country.

He encouraged FM100 to continue being the voice of real news—news that is credible, substantial, and free from misinformation as the country face its 50th year.

“Radio remains a lifeline, particularly for the many rural communities that are still unconnected by roads and other modern infrastructure.”

The Prime Minister also called on FM100 and other media outlets to hold leaders accountable while ensuring they provide factual and responsible reporting and to remain the voices of accountability in the society, ensuring that Papua New Guineans receive accurate and balanced news.

He also extended his gratitude to NASFUND, BSP, and all sponsors for their continued commitment to supporting the FM100 Talkback Show, ensuring that important national conversations reach the people.

“Thank you to NASFUND, BSP, and all our sponsors for ensuring that this platform continues,” he said.

“Reflecting on a recent visit to Gasmata in West New Britain, the Prime Minister highlighted the challenges of infrastructure and communication gaps in remote areas. Roads remain unconnected for almost 60% of our population, and modern connectivity is still out of reach for many,” he said.

“Yet, through radio, we can transmit conversations to even the most isolated communities.” In his address, Prime Minister Marape also took a moment to inspire the youth of Papua New Guinea, reminding them of their value and the government’s commitment to their future.
