The ReaRea Juinor High School in Lealea, Hiri/Koiari District of Central Province has thanked the Mineral Resources Development Authority (MRDC) and its subsidiary Gas Resources PNG LNG Plant Limited (GRPNGLNGP) for handing over new facilities worth over K2million.
The facilities that were handed over to the school included a 4 in 1 double story classroom, three duplex houses for the teachers and two 15-seater busses all at the cost of K2.3 million on Friday March 07th,2025.
School Principal Mr. Morea Aia said the school was established last year, 2024 and there was no infrastructure for the school and with the first intake of grade 9s last year who are in grade 10 this year there was a need for infrastructure.
Mr. Aia says there was literally nothing so he was basically looking around for houses, to house four of the teachers who were sent to come and teach there.
He says for the four teachers he had a bit of a hard time looking for accommodation for them. But eventually they were settled to the community hall, that was run by the women’s fellowship group.
He adds that apart from housing, the other problem was the classrooms so he had been pestering the board to do something. Until the first week of Term 3 last year, they started doing some work. And it took them three months to complete this four-in-one classroom.
He says now with these new classrooms coming on, they are already settling in the grade 10s and the grade 9s in those classrooms and they are expecting to put up more classrooms and more staff houses this year which pave the way, to accommodate grade 11s that will be in taken next year.
An elated principal Mr. Aia sated that starting this month when funds are ready, they will start building the other classrooms and staff housing including a science lab which will benefit a total the population of about 314 students and seven teaching staff.
