DEPUTY OPPOSITION LEADER JAMES NOMANE’s CASE ADJOURNED

DEPUTY Opposition leader James Nomane’s substantive matter on the section 18 (1) of the Constitution, seeking high Courts knowledge, interpretation and ruling for the Opposition to Vote-of-No-Confidence against the current Prime Minister James Marape has been adjourned to another week.

It has now been deferred to next Friday, 21st of March 2025, and a full Supreme Court bench consist of Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika, Justice David Cannings, Justice Derek Hartshorn, Justic Ere Kariko and Justice Oagile Dingake will deliberate on the case.

This was due to Chief Justice Sir Gibbs Salika was sick and not feeling well to attended the matter, the Court was told earlier this morning.

The matter returned Friday, 14th of March 2025, to deliberate on the application pursuant to the Constitution section 18 (1) by Nomane after the Supreme Court decision on March 5th dismissed the Objections to Competency brough forward by the interveners in Attorney General Pila Niningi and Speaker Job Pomat.

Deputy Opposition leader Nomane filed the substantive application to seek the constitutionally of the Standing Order 165 and the high Court consist of five-man bench will deliberate on this next week Friday.

Moreover, if the Court rules favorably towards Nomane and the Opposition next week, the opportunity of Vote-of-No-Confidence against the Prime Minister Marape is survive and can move anytime when the Parliament re-convene.
