Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (KMHL) has donated K1.25 million to the Basketball Federation of Papua New Guinea (BFPNG) to support the growth of basketball in the country.
This is the first time in nearly 10 years that BFPNG has received corporate sponsorship.
The official presentation took place on Monday this week at the Tribes Coffee Club in Port Moresby.
KMHLβs Manager Director for External Affairs, Mr. Philip Manda, handed over the K1.25 million cheque to BFPNG President, Mr. David Peter, and BFPNG Patron, Mr. Charles Able.
Mr. Manda said that the partnership was an important step in helping develop basketball in PNG, a sport that is popular across villages, schools, and churches, yet often underfunded. He added that KMHL is proud to support BFPNG and help uncover new talent.
BFPNG President David Peter thanked KMHL for their timely support, mentioning that it has been difficult to secure sponsorship in the past. He is excited about the new partnership and how it will help BFPNGβs growth.
BFPNG Patron, Mr. Charles Able, also expressed his gratitude, stating that the sponsorship will boost both local and international basketball in PNG.
Thanks to KMHLβs support, the national basketball team will be able to participate in several major events this year, including the 3×3 Asia Cup in Singapore, the Mini Pacific Games in Palau, the FIBA Melanesian Cup, and the FIBA U17 Championships.
The funds will also help strengthen the National and Regional Championships in PNG.
This historic sponsorship marks a new chapter for basketball in Papua New Guinea, and BFPNG is eager to work with KMHL to develop the sport even further.
