TAIWAN GOVT DONATES SOLAR POWER KITS IN GOROKA

THE Government of Taiwan and its people have donated a total of K400,000 worth of solar power kits to the people of Eastern Highlands Province last Friday in Goroka.

The presentation was made by the representative of the Taipei Economic Cultural Office in Papua New Guinea and Taiwan government representative Mr Ben Wang to the Eastern Highlands Governor Simon Sia at the Governor’s office in Goroka.

Speaking during the Presentation, Mr Wang highlighted that the Taiwanese Government, with the Spirit of Compassion and Care, have regarded Papua New Guinea as one of their steadfast partners in development corporations.

He said over the last 30 years, the Taiwan Technical Mission, have assisted local farmers in rice cultivation, aiming at achieving food security and self-sufficiency.

While in Healthcare, the Changhua Christian Health Hospital in Taiwan has maintained a close partnership with Port Moresby General Hospital, helping to train PNG Doctors to become experts in various fields.

He also added that since 2022, the Taiwan government has assisted through the medical referral program for cancer patients to receive high – quality treatment in Taiwan.

Mr Wang said, they are delighted to work in partnership with the Eastern Highlands Provincial Government under the leadership of Hon Governor Simon Sia.

The items delivered includes 720 sets of Solar Power Kits – 10-watt solar panels, two LED Light Tube that will be distributed to remotes schools and Health centers in the Province.

Mr Wang hoped that the donation will bring clean and reliable lighting to many households, especially teachers and health workers working and serving in the remotest places in Eastern Highlands Province and will also help the children in their studies and help families to improve their comfort of daily living.

Eastern Highlands Governor Simon Sia expressed his sincere gratitude towards the people of Taiwan and the Government for recognizing the second-largest Province in the Country.

He said the visit marked the beginning of new things that would be forthcoming in the near future.

Mr Sia said the visit also opened up the corridor to knock on doors to seek assistance to enhance development that would improve the living standard of the people of Eastern Highlands Province.
