Rabaul District is set to re-establish Rabaul High School, a once-leading institution destroyed by the 1994 volcanic eruptions. Funded with K700,000 from DSIP, the project aims to ease overcrowding in local schools and reduce student migration to other districts.

The revival, driven by Rabaul MP Dr. Allan Marat, is in response to education reforms and rising youth unemployment. Phase one includes land surveys and site clearance, with locals involved to preserve cultural heritage.

โ€œRe-establishing Rabaul High School will stop students from traveling to Kokopo or Gazelle, which is time-consuming and risky,” Freddy Lemeki, Rabaul District Administrator stated.

Last week, a multi-sector team conducted awareness at the old site as Lemeki stressed involving locals to address needs and honor the schoolโ€™s legacy, which produced many elites.
โ€œUnemployed youth lacking education has fueled law and order issues therefore this project is a solutionโ€ he stressed.
The district administration pledges collaboration with stakeholders to improve education facilities, aligning with its Strategic Result Areas.
