WATER PNG has advised of its Mt Eriama Treatment Plant back online following the completion of PNG Power Limited’s completion of works at Rouna Head Pond.

Water has been restored in the National Capital District since 8:07 this morning, Water PNG further advised of teams continued work to restore full supply to all affected areas by 6pm today.

Water PNG apologies for any convenience caused by the delay and appreciate understanding and patience and also advised all water users to run taps to flush the system before using.

Water has been disrupted since last Saturday and has been restored today Monday, 29th of December.

Meantime, PNG Power Limited has also issued similar advice of completion of maintenance works at Rouna 2 Head Pond.

PNG Power Ltd had advised the public that the planned maintenance work at the Rouna 2 Hydropower Head Pond, announced last week, has been successfully completed two hours earlier than scheduled.

As of 10:00 pm last night, the Head Pond, which also supplies water to Water PNG, has been filled and and it is expected that water supply for PNG Water to transmit to its Mt Eriama water treatment plant should be restored by then.

The clearance operation was carried out to remove accumulated debris and sediment, ensuring the long-term reliability of hydro generation infrastructure.

Electricity supply remained unaffected throughout the operation. The only impact was on water services, which were temporarily interrupted while Water PNG undertook parallel works during the Head Pond outage.

PNG Power will continue to provide updates in partnership with Water PNG as part of its commitment to transparency, public awareness and public assurance.
