POLICE COMMENDED FOR APPREHENDING HIGHWAY ROBBERRY SUSPECTS

EAST Sepik Provincial Police Commander Supt. Christopher Tamari has praised his officers for their swift and decisive action in apprehending two suspects involved in a highway robbery near Koikin Village yesterday.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on the outskirts of Wewak when a vehicle overturned while attempting to evade the criminals.
The suspects allegedly targeted travelers along the highway, causing panic among motorists and nearby residents.
Supt. Tamari confirmed that a coordinated dawn raid today led to the successful capture of the two suspects. He commended his men for their discipline, courage, and commitment to public safety, noting that their actions prevented further harm to the community.
“This operation demonstrates the dedication of our officers in ensuring the safety of the people of East Sepik. Their quick response and teamwork are commendable,” Tamari said.
The suspects are now in police custody and are expected to face charges related to the robbery. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether the pair are linked to other criminal activities in the province.
Local residents have expressed relief at the arrests, with many calling for continued vigilance along the Wewak highway, which has seen sporadic incidents of criminal activity in recent months.
