RETIRED Major General, Jerry Singirok says the government needs to review the deployment of troops which is under Constitution of PNGΒ and theΒ Defence Act.
He made these remarks this morning on the Nasfund FM100 Talkback show, in commemorating the Sandline Crisis Anniversary, that shook the nation 29 years ago.
The retired major general explained that under the constitution, the functions of the police force and functions of the defence force are different
He says serving members of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF) are not permitted to be engaged as private bodyguards, however that has been happening in the recent years.
He adds that recent issues in the military have risen because of the infectiveness of the functions especially in the in areas of roles, discipline, and operational effectiveness.
The retired major general is urging the government to review the deployment of defence troops, to retore the prestige of the PNGDF.
