PAPUA NEW GUINEA’S Correctional Service held its annually Remembrance Day on Saturday 17th of January to honour CS officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.

This year marks the 37th Remembrance Day that the CIS have gathered together in honouring these fallen heros.


The event took place at Bomana CS Training collage at 4am to 6am to commemorate the lives of every member who have been serving the nation until their passing.

Speaking at the program, CS Commissioner Bernard Nepo said that in 2026, his leadership is prioritizing the welfare of active officers to ensure they are supported while serving, rather than only being honoured after they pass away.

Nepo also emphasize that as they remember the fallen comrades, he encourages every CIS officers to pay careful attention to their lives and their families as a way forward serving this country.


Gathered at the Bomana CS Training College were the CIS officers, their family members and the spouses of fallen comrades to remember and reflect on the officers who lost their lives in their line of duty especially during the tragic 1990 attack on Kuveria Jail in Bougainville.
