PNG’s EMERGING MARKETS PROVIDE FRESH CAPITAL, SAYS PM MARAPE

BY NIGEL MADO
SPEAKING at the 2026 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Prime Minister Marape has stated that PNG’s Markets could provide fresh capital to potential investors.
As one a panelist of the side meet “Where are we with Emerging Markets?” he stated that emerging markets will provide an avenue where investors can be assured to see returns, as PNG is transitioning from low-income, agriculture-based economies to higher-income, industrial, and service-based economies with increased global integration.
He informed that in his view, emerging markets are where fresh capital is, capital that knows no boundaries and that capital will flow elsewhere in cases where markets are squeezed or economic focus is restricted.
The Prime Minister concluded by advocating for investing in emerging markets in South-East Asia and the Pacific, where Papua New Guinea is located.
Due to PNG’s growth of 4% since the Covid 19 Pandemic, He believes PNG can be the new testing ground for potential business investment and if done correctly can reap huge benefits.
