LAE Urban Ward 9 Councilor, Ezra Tali has enrolled 41 students from his ward at Malahang Technical Secondary School in Lae.
The students will be taking up electrical, welding, catering, auto mech, plumbing and carpentry.
Tali says with the 41 students, the total feed amounts to K82,000 which is K2,000 per students for all the trade courses.
However, he is not able to cover all the cost with the little funding for his ward and has written to Lae MP, Hon John Rosso’s office for the support and the Deputy Prime Minister has pledged his support to cover the remaining balance.
Tali says everyone puts their focus on law and order issues but forgot the root cause of this which is the lack of education and no formal employment.
His plan is to get as much unemployment youths in his ward to get educated and help them secure full time jobs and currently, Malahang is the only school which he enrolled youths from his ward and he plans on doing more in the future with other technical schools.
Tali is a first term councilor and this is the first of it’s kind a councilor in his ward has done for the youths.
He says his ward is known for law and order issues and that is why when he took up the post as the councilor, he decided to get a number of youths to get formally educated and find jobs to sustain themselves.
He thank Lae MP and Deputy Prime Minister, Hon John Rosso who stood by him to support the youths in his community by giving them a second chance in education and in life.
Malahang Technical Secondary School trade departments team leader, Mrs Jom Kalop thank Tali for his initiative to help improve the lives of youths in ward 9 which is also where the school is located.
She also thanked Lae MP, John Rosso for helping to lower the number of unemployed youths in Lae.
