TSIAMALILI WELCOMES COURT DECISION ON STARLINK

THE Acting Minister for Information and Communications Technology, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr welcomes the court outcomes, supporting licensing pathway for Satellite Broadband Services.
Minister Tsiamalili says this outcome affirms Papua New Guinea’s commitment to a transparent, rules-based regulatory environment and reinforces the importance of compliance with national laws governing the ICT sector.
He said this decision is both timely and significant as it provides a clear and enabling pathway for the National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) to consider licensing satellite broadband services to support national disaster preparedness and response efforts.
With the court outcomes, this means Satellite-based connectivity will play a critical role in maintaining communications during emergencies and bridging connectivity gaps where traditional infrastructure exists.
The Acting ICT minister reaffirmed that this outcome sends a strong signal that Papua New Guinea is open to innovation, while maintaining the integrity of its regulatory systems in the national interest.
