ENBPA HONORS LATE GRAND CHIEF SOMARE AT HIS BIRTH SITE IN RABAUL

THE East New Britain Provincial Administration today joined the nation in honoring the late founding father Sir Michael Thomas Somare death Anniversary today.
It is a special occasion for the ENB Provincial Government, as today marks the first time to celebrate and honor the late grand Chief’s Anniversary at his birth place in East New Britain.
Town Mayor for Rabaul Town, Mr Timothy Biang, in his opening remarks, the Monument site is sacred ground, honoring a towering son of Papua New Guinea.
Mr Biang says, the monument represents a symbol of courage, vision and unity. Gather to commemorate the man. Who’s dream, shaped the the destiny of Papua New Guinea.
Sir Michael was not just a political leader but a nation builder, a bridge between tribes and languages, islands and mountains.
Mr Biang expressed that Sir Michael saw unity when there was division, Sir Michael saw destiny when there were differences, and his voice carried hope, his leadership carried wisdom and his heart carried the people.
He urged the people of Rabaul to reflect deeply when commemorating Sir Michael Somare’s Anniversary emphasizing that Commemoration is not remembrance but a responsibility to reflect and uphold the values that the great leader and founding father lived for that is Unity over tribalism, peace over conflict, dialogue over violence, service over selfish ambitions.
The Mayor paid tribute to the legacies of the Late Grand Chief Sir Michael Thomas Somare.
Present at the ceremony today, ENB Governor Michael Marum, the Provincial administrator Mr Levi Mano, members of Parliament, Elders and Leaders of the Tolai Community, the Somare Family, and the people of Rabaul Urban and Rabaul District.
