ROYAL Papua New Guinea Constabulary Commissioner David Manning has advised that full investigation into the assault of a journalist covering a story regarding an incident at the Bomana Correctional Institution will commence.
Speaking to the FM100 Newsroom, Commissioner David Manning stated that he was just briefed this morning of the report of the Assault and has instructed members of the Criminal Investigation Division to conduct a full investigation into the incident.
He stated that he has also reached out to the Correctional Institutions Services [CIS] Acting Commissioner, Bernard Nepo to conduct a joint investigation but has yet to receive a response.
The Media Council of Papua New Guinea today in a statement demanded a full independent investigation into the matter after a female reporter was assaulted at the Bomana Correctional institution on her way to attend a press conference.
The Commissioner advised FM100 that he has yet to review the press release and has condemned the actions of those responsible, calling the act unacceptable and against democracy and liberty of speech.
