PANGU PATI REAFFIRMS 10% WOMEN CANDIDATE TARGET FOR 2027 ELECTION

PRIME Minister and Pangu Pati Leader James Marape reaffirmed the party’s commitment to increasing women’s participation in politics, pledging to meet the minimum 10% women candidate quota at the 2027 National General Election. 

During remarks made at Pangu Party’s 28th National Convention yesturday Marape said the Government introduced legislative reforms requiring that at least 10 per cent of candidates endorsed by political parties be women noting that they will fulfil the law that they themselves enacted. 

He said at minimum, Pangu Pati will be endorsing 10 per cent women candidates where they want to see more women participating in leadership and decision-making because our country is stronger when women have a greater voice in shaping its future. 

Prime Minister stressed to continue looking at practical pathways to ensure women are represented in Parliament and in national leadership.

The convention continues today, with outcomes and resolutions expected to be announced following the completion of deliberations.
