CRIME TREND AFFECTS SIMPLE PEOPLE IN KAVIENG TOWN
By Rebecca MARIGU, Kavieng
In the face of economic crisis, more and more youths resort to drugs and alcohol across the nation and Kavieng is no exception. Manageable minor offences such as pickpocket, loitering and drunk and disorderly has become a norm in Kavieng town.
Youths openly causing public nuisance without any remorse is also becoming a concern.
Kavieng Police Station Commander is called upon to maintain command & control to work with the communities to mitigate these offences that are thriving on a daily basis.
New Ireland Provincial Commander Superintendant Albert Bellie recently expressed same sentiments. He stated that outside influence is one of the contributing factors to the trending crimes in the province.
PPC Bellie confirmed that most reports coming into the police station are alcohol & drug related cases and offenders are mostly youths.
He said, the province has homed people from other provinces that come to Kavieng, they bring in outside influence as well, which is seen practiced in the province. PPC Bellie urged all parents to disciple and raise their children well. He added that they not to leave all the work to police to deal with all the law & order issues.
