TOMURIESA REMAINS OPPOSITION LEADER; DONALD AS DEPUTY

By Naomi TAKOMA
MEMBER for Kiriwina-Goodenough, Douglas Tomuriesa, remains the Opposition Leader, while Member for North Fly, James Donald, continues as Deputy Opposition Leader.
Speaker of Parliament, Job Pomat, confirmed this during this morning’s sitting before Question Time.
Mr. Pomat said he had received two separate passes — one from the Member for Kiriwina-Goodenough, Douglas Tomuriesa, and another from the Member for Chuave, James Nomane, both indicating leadership claims.
He said the passes were conflicting, prompting the chair to revoke Mr. Nomane’s claim as Opposition Leader.
The Speaker stated that until the Opposition holds a proper caucus meeting and submits a formal appointment, the chair will continue to recognize Mr. Tomuriesa as the Opposition Leader and Mr. Donald as his deputy.
