PILOT’S BODY RECOVERED| NO SURVIVORS RECOVERED IN SAPMANGA PLANE CRASH

THE body of the pilot of P2-SAM, North Coast Aviation Aircraft has been recovered from the recent plane crash near Sapmanga in Morobe Province.

As confirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Lae MP John Rosso, the body has been flown to Lae.

“There were no survivors,” Rosso said, adding that the crash site, at around 8,400 feet, is extremely remote and challenging to access.

All five people onboard are believed to have died on impact, with the wreckage catching fire after the crash.

Specialist recovery teams from the PNG Defence Force, police, and forensic units are working to retrieve the remaining bodies.

“Our priority is to recover the victims and support their families during this difficult time,” Rosso stated, expressing condolences to the grieving families.

According to recent updates, the aircraft was carrying four passengers and a pilot, was en route to Nadzab Airport when it crashed into dense jungle on Sunday.

Search teams located the crash site on Monday morning during an aerial operation.

Helicopters and winch systems are being used due to the rugged terrain and thick vegetation.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
