NEW EDUCATION MINISTER ASSUMES OFFICE AHEAD OF OFFICIAL HANDOVER CEREMONY

THE new Minister for Education, Francis Kikin Siune, officially assumed office yesterday following his acceptance of the responsibility with a strong sense of duty and commitment to serve the people of Papua New Guinea and advance the nation’s education system.
Addressing staff, in a small ceremony at Vulupindi Haus, witnessed by staff from the Department of Education and the Teaching Service Commission (TSC), Minister Siune thanked outgoing Education Minister Lucas Dekena, former Acting Minister Kinoka Feo, and Prime Minister James Marape and the PANGU-led Government for the confidence placed in him through his appointment.
Minister Siune said he would continue building on the work of his predecessors to strengthen the education sector.
He also acknowledged Secretary for Education Dr. Uke Kombra and Teaching Service Commission Chairman Maini Mike Ugaia for their continued leadership in delivering essential services to teachers and students across the country.
The new minister also expressed his appreciation to the people of Kerowagi Open.
“To the people of Kerowagi, I offer my deepest appreciation for your unwavering trust, support and prayers. This appointment is not only for me but also a recognition of the confidence you have placed in your elected representative. I remain committed to serving both the people of Kerowagi and the nation with the integrity, humility and dedication.
To ensure a smooth transition, Minister Siune commenced comprehensive ministerial briefings today with the leadership of the Department of Education, the Teaching Service Commission, and the Office of Library and Archives.
A written briefing outlining key policies, priorities, and expected outcomes will be submitted by Thursday. This briefing package will form the basis of the official ministerial handover ceremony on Friday, 24 July, when outgoing Minister Lucas Dekena and former Acting Minister Kinoka Feo will formally hand over responsibility for the ministry to Minister Siune.
The formal ministerial handover is scheduled for Friday, 24 July.
