MRDC HANDS OVER DOUBLE CLASSROOM TO RED SCAR HIGH SCHOOL IN POREBADA

The Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) and its subsidiary Gas Resources Plant (GRPNGLNGP) today announced the handing over of a double classroom to Redscar High School, in Porebada village, in the PNG LNG Project plant site area outside Port Moresby.

The newly built facility is a welcome addition for the high school, which had been facing critical shortage in classroom space.

It took two months to complete the double classroom, built at the cost of K620,000.

Local contractors were engaged to deliver the project, with labor drawn from the local villages.

The double classroom was officially opened by the local MP for Hiri/Koiari Keith Iduhu and witnessed by representatives from MRDC, the Group Directors of the impacted villages, the 35 clans of Porebada, students and parents.

MP Iduhu acknowledged MRDC, who are trustees of the GRPNGLNGP for administering and managing the affairs and the assets of that project.

He says he recognize a formidable partner in supporting and developing projects in the district.

Iduhu pledged to support projects in the district through such partnerships.

Meanwhile MRDC General Manager Client Services Mr. Bartholomew Yacop said through the landowner company, they are handing over to the community a very important facility to enable a better learning environment in the school. The growing number of students is causing strain to the government on the existing facility, and causing a critical shortage in classroom space.

Mr. Yacop says as a partner in the development of the community, it is in the interest of this resource plan to undertake this project. Through cooperation between community leaders and directors a submission was made to the board and funds were identified to deliver this facility.

He adds that the education sector has been given the top priority in the project areas that MRDC manages.
