DOWH LAUNCH 50TH GOLDEN JUBILEE LOGO

The Department of Works & Highways (DOWH) has launched its 50th Golden Jubilee Logo under the theme “We connect PNG Now to Build Our Future” that will coincide with the country’s 50th Independence Celebrtaions at the DOWH headquarters in Port Moresby today.

This momentous occasion was witnessed by DOWH Minister Solan Mirism, Vice Minister Peter Isoaimo, Secretary Gibson Holemba, Deputy Secretaries, and staff.

Minister Mirism said that golden jubilee will mark the transformation that is 50 years onwards into another chapter.

He says DOWH has been the heartbeat of the nation’s progress and pillar of infrastructure development.

The Minister adds that the Connect PNG Program has been driving connectivity throughout the country.

He says under the program National Highways, bridges and infrastructure have connected the missing links throughout the country.

Sharing similar sentiments on the Connect PNG Program Secretary Holemba said to commemorate the country’s 50th independence anniversary celebration, the Department will visit districts in the country where major road links are located and open these road to highlight connectivity.

Meanwhile, Central Province Governor Rufina Peter in a recent statement has called on the government to halt the Connect PNG Program due to concerns raised over National Security threat to Papua Region.


Governor Peter made an urgent call to the Prime Minister and the National Executive Council and all members of Parliament to immediately suspend the Connect PNG Program for the next 50years stating that until proper border security mechanisms are in place to protect the Papuan Region from escalating security threats.


She further states that the unregulated expansion of roads linking Papua to the Highlands and other regions is now the greatest internal security threat to Gulf, Central, Port Moresby, and the National Capital District (NCD).


Meantime, Deputy Minister for Works and Highway Peter Iso Aimo clarified during the Launching of DoWH 50th Golden Jubilee Logo today and acknowledged Governor Rufina’s concerns however affirmed that Connect PNG Program will benefit the Papuan Provinces
