20TWENTY SEES GROWTH IN NUMBERS AFTER PARTNERSHIP WITH MiBANK

It’s be an exciting and rewarding journey for 20Twenty convenient shop over the last year as the
company has seen an increase in customer numbers into its shop at Kennedy Estate and also its new
outlet at 8 mile in Port Moresby.


“Over the last twelve months, we had a number of new opportunities for growth, “said Helen Victor,
Director and owner of 20Twenty. “For instance, we initially started our first shop at Kennedy Estate in
Port Moresby in July 2021. Last year, we opened our second shop at 8 mile in August. We are also
developing a bed and breakfast establishment as we see a need for this in the market and given our
strategic location where we are not only located next to the Jackson’s airport but also operating in an
area with the road link connecting Central and Gulf provinces, we endeavor to provide a comfortable
and safe overnight accommodation,” added Mrs. Victor.


Mrs. Helen Victor, a 52 year old mother of five from Jiwaka is a teacher by profession. Helen had always
wanted to be a small business operator. She ventured into business by signing up and becoming a gas
cage dealer for Puma Energy PNG Ltd in 2015 and become a flagship dealer from 2016 to 2018.


In 2017, Helen was offered a scholarship under the Australia Awards, she obtained a Master in New
Business Venture Creation from the University of Sunshine Coast after two years. After completing her
studies, she returned back to the country and wanted to start up a convenient shop however due to
covid- 19 pandemic, her dreams were put on hold until 2021 when she opened her first shop at Kennedy
Estate, Port Moresby.


When asked why she named her shop 20Twenty, she quipped, “I initially wanted to open my shop in the
year 2020 but could not do so as we were hit by the pandemic so I wanted to remember that despite
any situation, one should never give up on their dreams whatever that may look like.”


Mrs. Victor became an agent of MiBank in September 2023, she initially opened ten to twenty accounts
for customers a day at her shop in Kennedy Estate. She now registers or receive forty to fifty customers
a day from both shops. Most of Helen’s main customers are taxi and PMV Operators who visit her shop
to do deposits of their daily earnings.

Helen’s team open accounts, issue card on the go and assist customers do their deposits and withdrawals from their MiCash account. Helen added that her customers are always pleased with the service as opening an account with MiBank is a seamless process, with minimal requirements for our customers.

“When we open an account for our customers, they are issued a card which enables them to purchase for goods and services. Our customers can transact through mobile banking, do top ups and mobile transfers.”

Mrs. Victor said that been an agent of MiBank adds value to her business, her customers can come and
do banking and at the same time purchase items from her shops. As a local business operator, it is
important to build a relationship with the community and I am pleased my customers can obtain more
than one service when visiting 20Twenty convenient shop.
