Minister for Communication and Information Technology, and Member for South Bougainville, Timothy Masiu, has called for Papua New Guinea’s pre-independence history to be included in the national education curriculum and in every library across the country.
Speaking in Parliament this week, Masiu paid tribute to the late Sir Julius Chan, highlighting the important legacies left by him and other founding fathers of the country, including the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.
Masiu emphasized that these leaders were the architects who shaped PNG into the country it is today.
He said their history is vital for the younger generation to understand. Many young people today are unaware of the struggles and achievements of PNG’s founding fathers, including the events surrounding independence, the Sandline crisis, and the Bougainville crisis. Masiu believes this history is essential for the youth to grasp the significance of PNG’s journey to independence and its future
