POGERA LANDOWER SAYS MOST DEATHS OF ILLEGAL MINERS ARE NOT LANDOWNERS

By Mortimer YANGHARRY
Son of late Pogera-Paiela MP and landowner of the Pogera gold mine, Gidron Karipe revealed that most deaths of illegal miners shot by security forces are from other districts of Enga Province and not Pogera Special Mining Lease (SML) landowners.
He is concerned with the number of the deaths of illegal miners and urged them to stop risking their lives to engage in illegal mining as the mine and government security forces are using lethal force against intruders.
He says with all due respect; people must stop sharing news about illegal miners losing their lives in Porgera Mine. Every reported death is not the landowners of Porgera.
He appealed to the public and the media to stop dragging Porgera and Paiela into the spotlight with unnecessary news.
Karipe stressed that if one does not have a permit to enter the mine premises, then they are illegal miners so if caught by the security guards they will be dealt with.
He passed on his condolences to grieving families of illegal miners killed over the last two months and urged them to abide by the rule of law to avoid deaths, problems and other unnecessary inconveniences.
